Bijnor: A 12-year-old boy died after he came in contact with a live wire at Bagadpur village on Sunday morning. According to villagers, electricity department officials turned a deaf ear to complaints about the wire hanging loose for more than a week over a mango farm in the village.
Vir Singh, a resident, said, “The farm where the incident took place belongs to one Ashok Kumar but it was being looked after by Shyam Sundar, the victim’s father, who lived with his family.
A low tension wire broke loose last week and we informed the electricity department by means of an application. But no one came to fix it. As a result, Sundar’s son, Mohan Kumar, died of electrocution.”
Another villager, Sumit Kumar, said, “The child died due to the fault of electricity officials. Had the wire been repaired on time, this accident would have not taken place.”
Meanwhile, authorities denied receiving any complaint from villagers about the live wire.
Harish Kumar, sub divisional officer, electricity department, Chandpur, said, “We have spoken with the lineman and other officials of the department about the incident. They said they have not received any complaint about the loose wire. We will help the family in whatever way possible.”
SDM Rakesh Yadav said, “We will help the family of the deceased boy by all means. The family has not approached us yet.”
